Easy victory, and the French retreat south with 40k left and I give chase with my main 60k stack. I march my 80k men through the Netherlands and engage France's 60k stack at Haynaut (sp?). Oh well, I was pretty confident that I could take France on with my superior troops and we had equal sized continental armies (Infiltrate Administration let me watch troop movements). I still didn't understand what the hell was the cause of the war, but I was suddenly going toe-to-toe with the most powerful nation on the continent. Suddenly, war breaks out with France as the aggressor. Peace is abound and I'm content to sit back and let time fly by at max speed. It's about 1750 and things are looking good for the fledgling German nation. I was playing as Brandenburg/Prussia/Germany. This is from my first Ironman game and my first time making it to the "endgame". seems like the perfect time for Time of Troubles to kick in, right? How about some Polish/Lithuanian opportunism? So I'm down to -1 stab, I'm in swathes of debt, the Swedish are mercilessly destroying my armies, Novgorod suddenly fancies its chances. I'm scrambling to mount a defense long enough to give me some options. Sweden decides they'd like some of my northern territories and invades with a stack it has no right having at that stage. Regency council kicks in and I'm left with little but a mid-sized army and a lot of neighbours sniffing the scent of blood on the air. and dies no more than a couple of weeks later. My new, ambitious but flawed leader takes up the rei(g)ns. I curse my luck (and the cosmos) but its not exactly the end of the world (unless you listen to those peasants). Kinda crappy heir and down to +2 stab but no biggie. I declare war and its going alright, when my ruler dies. I set my sights on forming Russia and just have some work to do in Novgorod - they've been getting a pounding from Sweden and I figure now is the time. I'm sitting on +3 stability and high prestige. Decent money coming in and a reasonable standing army. Playing as Muscovy, got off to a pretty good start, annexing all existing vassals and taking a little land to the west and north. Was a little while ago but it went something like this: I let out a cheer and quickly white peaced out of all my wars and went back to defending my borders while my new king slowly built up his legitimancy. Then almost as suddenly as it began the PU ended as Ansbach's King was killed in war. With Ansbach picking on it's neighbours then expecting me to save their backsides. Wondering how I was going to get out of it was incredibly annoying because as soon as one war was finishing they would declare another. Before I could start a war for my independence they declared war on the Palatinate forcing me to give them a kicking on their behalf. There I was a month or so from vassalising them and now they had me in a personal union. I bet they couldn't believe their friggin luck. On monarch death: Personal Union with Spain.Īgain I do not want that. On monarch death: Personal Union with Sweden. Well no thanks, royal marriage cancelled. On monarch death: Personal Union with France. By the time my ruler was 45 I was concerned he would die without an heir so I checked what would happen if he did knowing that as Papal controller I could cancel royal marriages with no stab hit. the years began to tick by and no heir appeared. Unfortunately there was no message to say I had a new heir. A year or so later and the idiot son died. His son was an imbecile though and had just come of age so I immediately assigned him to a small army and sent him off to find a glorious death in battle. I had a decent king 4-2-5 stats on the throne in his early 40s. Had a mini moment of absolute horror in my Prussia game.
